Experience Aviation Firsthand with the Aviation Explorers

Young men and women over the age 14, in Chicago's Northwest suburbs, are invited to join us to experience the thrill of flying and explore the rewards of a career in aviation.

Aviation Explorer Post 9 is a Learning for Life program sponsored by Windy City Flyers, operating out of the Chicago Executive Airport (KPWK) (formerly Palwaukee) in Wheeling, IL.

Our objectives are to:

  • Provide a broad look at many of the career possibilities in the aviation industry.
  • Provide an opportunity to learn the basic knowledge used by professionals in aviation.
  • Provide an opportunity to become as deeply involved in aviation activities as possible, by including programs such as private pilot ground school and familiarization flying.
  • Explore firsthand the world of aviation and the principles of flight.
  • Investigate all aspects of the aviation industry.
  • Learn to care for a plane, keep it maintained, and fly it in a professional manner.

Explore this site to see what we're about. Then join us for one of our meetings to get to know us.
